For my third class observation, I sat in on Hunter's Group 3 Composition class. Hunter and I actually had a class together my freshman year at FSU, but I did not ask if he remembers me. He uses a PowerPoint to organize the class. Today, the students were learning about an upcoming survey project they would have to create. During his warm-up at the beginning of class, he puts on a song from Youtube, which I thought was fun. In his powerpoint, he adds beautiful mistakes from the day before and has students correct them on the board. His organizational structure of the class is very logical and follows scaffolding techniques. He explained to me his rational of using inductive and deductive approaches for different topics during the lesson. He likes to have a specific format for his lesson plan. His format is like an hourglass. He begins the lesson very broad, brings the class back in with a very structured approach during the middle of the lesson and then spreads out at the end. Hunter seems very prepared in his lesson plans. I can tell he takes his job very seriously, and is sincerely motivated to educate thoughtfully. Hunter creates an open and friendly culture in the classroom, and encourages students to participate. The class was very student-centered. Overall, this was a very professional class.
