I observed a grammar session with intermediate level students aged 20+. I learned to write the objective of the day on the board, so students know the goals of the day and what they should master by the end of the class. The teacher justified the work - learning common proverbs - by saying that native speakers often use them, which abides by the grammar lesson plan we completed. I liked that the teacher took time to go around the classroom during speaking activities to jot down students' mistakes and go more in depth with grammar rules. She provided a plethora of scenarios in which the particular proverbs would be used, such as "don't judge a book by its cover" by saying she never thought she would marry her husband because she didn't find him attractive at first, which got the students laughing and sharing their own examples. She also shared Kelly Clarkson's song "What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger", which is a proverb, which exposed the students to American pop culture. I learned ways to grab students attention in the future through songs or video clips.
