I met with my tutee, Nadine for the 1st time today. We first talked about our days, and some background information on ourselves, where we were from, how old we were, etc. I then took some academic questions from the handout we got and asked her questions such as, "Why are you studying English" or "What is the best way to study in your opinion" or "How can I help during these sessions". I found that she is studying for the TOEFL test, that she likes writing out notes over and over again, and that she wanted me to correct speaking or writing mistakes. When she mispronounced words such as "unavailable" I repeated after her using my own sentences, such as "I am unavailable as well" with the correct pronunciation.

She didn't bring her homework or anything this time, so we just practiced speaking to each other. I asked her about her family back home in West Africa, and we shared pictures of our favorite foods. She tried Olive Garden for the first time a few weeks ago, and she said she loved it! I look forward to our next meeting.
