Today I met up with my other conversation partner, Susan. I started off the meeting with the “Who Are You” activity worksheet as an ice breaker, but she didn’t even need it. She was extremely chatty and bubbly which made conversation so easy and time flew by. I had a lot of activities and ideas planned because my last conversation partner only spoke when I prompted him to, so I was planning for her to be just as reticent. But to my surprise, she was extremely open about her passions, her life, family, husband, worries etc. and talked freely about them without me asking. She shared so much about her life and it opened me up as well. She asked me what I thought of Donald Trump, and I told her I didn’t like Trump because of his stance on immigration and how he views people from other countries. Surprisingly, she viewed this as him being “patriotic” and loving his country, instead of the way I view it as being closed-minded. It was interesting seeing a perspective on Trump from a non-American, and she shared her views on Colombia’s current president and politics. Susan surprised me in a lot of ways and it was a lot of fun hearing about her life and career dreams; we’re going to get lunch together next week!
