Trisha TS #3
I met with Turki for our second tutoring session after class on Tuesday. I first talked to him about the IELT books and messaged him the photos of the textbooks. He was excited and more than happy to purchase one of them. I asked him what he needed help with. When he said nothing, I asked what he was working on in class and he showed me. He seemed to understand what he was working on and I knew I wanted to work on his grammar, but he seemed to think he didn't need to work on it. I gave him a writing assignment: "What do you miss most about your home country?" I told him it can be anything; a person, food, ceremony, the way people interact, etc. I asked him to write 5-6 sentences. He did, and I explained to him the error codes and told him how I would help him correct it by using these codes. Last time, I just would tell him there was something wrong with a word in a sentence. I preferred being able to write down the error codes because it felt less disciplinary in a way. I asked him to take a photo of the error code worksheet and to have the paragraph revised at our next meeting, Friday. As our time was up, I began to pack my things and restate what I was expecting next tutoring session and then he asked me to help him summarize an essay. I was frustrated that he hadn't brought it up in the beginning rather than stating it when I asked him. I helped him. I also realized that maybe I need to repeat myself over and over and perhaps he didn't understand. I will focus on repeating myself and perhaps make an agenda.
