I met with Marcia in the CIES lounge. She told me she didn't have any questions or homework, and that she really would prefer to just chat and have a conversation to work on her speaking skills, and have me correct any speaking errors. This way, she could get feedback on her speaking, but we could also just have a bit more of a relaxed session and just talk with each other. We talked a bit about the TOEFL, and what her plans are after this session. She told me that she is going to continue studying English in hopes to take the TOEFL in a few months. She said she's not sure if she will get a high enough score the first time, but she wants to at least take it to see where she stands, and then if she has to continue studying after that, she will. She wants to get a high enough score to be able to come to school here for her masters program, but she's also considering going to a university in South Korea, however they require a higher TOEFL score so she's still leaning towards coming back here. Once we discussed her plans and I gave her some tips for continuing her English studies, we talked a bit about what my future plans are once I graduate. She was excited that I am planning to go to South Korea, becuase she has family there and is very familiar with the culture. We spent basically the rest of our time talking about Korea and some cultural aspects. She told me about many different popular types of foods there and showed me some pictures. She reccommended a few restaurants to me and several different places I should try to go or foods I should try. I really enjoyed just chatting with her for this session, because we seem to get along really well. I made sure to try to help make note of some of the mistakes she would make when speaking, and sometimes I had to help her with vocabulary words or pronunciation mistakes, but overall she did a really good job at catching herself when she made mistakes and correcting her own errors. We made plans to meet agian next week so that I can help her with any questions or studying she has before taking a few tests.
