I met with Kevin for the last time this morning. I decided to go with a game of bingo again, so that we could end things on a happy note and I knew he would enjoy it. We did basically the same exact thing I did with him a few weeks ago when we played bingo, except this time I used different words. Again, I made a powerpoint with a minimal pair on each slide, and included pictures with each word. I tried to focus on some words that I thought might be difficult or confusing for him to hear a difference in or pronounce. We started by going through each slide and I would read the words several times, pointing to the pictures, and then I would stop pointing and say one of the words, and ask him to correctly identify which word I said. I also had him practice pronouncing the words himself. Once he seemed comfortable enough distinguishing all of the words, we filled out our bingo cards. This time, I brought some M&Ms and Skittles to use for the bingo chips. I think he actually liked the money more last time, but he definitely enjoyed that he got some candy out of this session too. He was super excited to play, because I guess he remembered how much fun he had last time. He had a smile on his face the whole time, and got really into it. I think he got a little bit too excited and eager to win, because he would mess up some of the words (put a chip down on the word I did not actually call), and then when I would look over his card to make sure his spaces were all correct and tell him that he misheard, and didn't win, he would get upset (not in the sense that he was sad or mad, he just really wanted to win). We played several good rounds and I even let him call the cards one time so that he could practice his speech. All in all, I think it was a really good last session. I'm satisfied with the time I've spent tutoring Kevin, and was glad that he seemed happy throughout our whole last session. He definitely enjoyed leaving with the bag of leftover candy, and I felt a sense of satisfaction that I had finally made him happy and connected with him.
