I met with Nadine today and went through one integrated writing activity, which she had practiced once in her own TOEFL class. First, we went through the structure of the activity, such as alloting 3 minutes for reading (and in that time, I advised to take note of the topic sentences, because they make for succinct summary of the reading), listening to the lecture, and then the 20 minutes for writing the compare and contrast. I gave her my copy of writing tips that was handed out during the TEFL sessions, and listed transition words, starter words (firstly, secondly, etc) and other tips to start an essay (quotes, questions).
I liked this tutoring session because she was very engaged, which made me more excited to teach her!
