Sunday 5:00-6:00 PM NXNW. I tutored Abdulhadi did the minimal pairs bingo activity that Taylor and I did for our class! I liked doing it in a tutoring session one-on-one because I could really shape the lesson around Abdulhadi’s strengths and weaknesses. To make it more of a holistic tutoring session and less of a listening class, I had him pronounce the words with me as we went on. While the minimal pair I had on the powerpoint was “fear” and “fair,” I noticed he was pronouncing “fair” like “fire,” so I added fire to the mix so he could learn that word as well. Similarly, the powerpoint had “win” and “wing,” but he was pronouncing “wing” like “wink,” so I added “wink” to the lesson. The Bingo game was also a new thing for Abdulhadi, he had never played it before! I had planned for this and found a great video depicting the point of the game. The voiceover on the video was really fast and had an accent, so I muted the video, slowed it down, and described the video in words Abdulhadi would understand. Overall, I think this lesson was really helpful for him because he definitely needs to focus on pronunciation. A lot of times when he speaks to me, he has the right words, but he pronounces them in a way I cannot understand until he writes it down on paper.
