Taylor TS #5

On Valentines Day 2/14 I tutored Mohammed again in the computer lab. At first he was not that focused because there was a soccer match going on in the next room that was very loud but this ended up being a very good session. I did an interview style exercise with him where he had to form sentences about food, and I would correct his sentences and help with pronounciation. For instance, he did not know how to say "spinach" at first or even know the english word for it. So he showed me a photo, and we went over the pronunciation together. At first, his sounded like the word "Spanish" and we had to work on that for a second. Then he went on to say "I tried spinach the other day and did not like it." We did this type of interview thing for about 20 minutes.
After that, I pulled up a low level dictation exercise from eslgold.com about food as well. I showed him the dictation passage with words missing, played the listening sample, and had him jot down the words to fill in the blanks. We listened to the passage 3 times before he got all of the words, but he liked that exercise too so I will probably use that style again. I gave him a chocolate caramel heart for Valentines Day and explained that even friends give candy to each other, and he blushed some more. Such a sweet tutee!!
