Taylor TS #7
After I met with Mohammed on 2/21 I met with Elaine. She had two papers that were graded and she had to revise, so we went through all of the comments on them. There were a lot of VF and WF comments, so I took note of those circumstances and we revisited those common beautiful mistakes after the editing was done. Lots of them were instances where a verb can also act as a noun, and she mixed the two up- like using "measurement" when she should have used "measure".
I let her read one of my academic papers from an old sociology class so that she could get a better feel for the flow of an essay. Then, she did some heavy editing to certain paragraphs that were more like long run on sentences. I monitored and assisted with word choice some of the time, and when she made a mistake I used the questioning method that we learned in class. "Wait, what?" when she would use the incorrect verb form.
Her academic writing skills are impressive because she has a lot of great thoughts and points to make, but the smooth articulation skill that many of us college students have learned is not quite there yet.
