I Skyped with Do-jun this morning. He said he had been sick for the past couple of days and we began talking about eastern medicine and acupuncture. My older sister has done acupuncture in the past and so we connected on that. He said he did it recently for back pain because his friends recommended it to him, but that he didn't necessarily believe in eastern medicine. We began talking about what the medical field is like as a patient and I learned about a cool practice in South Korea. Ginseng is whats taken when you're well to keep you well. But you don't take it when you're sick. We didn't really talk about what made you better when you were sick. He clarified it wasn't taking Ginseng. Apparently Ginseng is very expensive. Do-jun said it is about $200 and that most people take it once a year, but that wealthy individuals take it more. He mentioned that he heard about the shooting in Florida, but that it wasn't specified which part, so he had no idea if it was in Tallahassee or not. We started talking about how Americans feel about gun policies and I shared the arguments I can see; that criminals have guns and so to protect yourself, you should have the right to one, too, but let him know I lean towards the other side of better gun laws. I tried to explain to him that I look at things in terms of statistics or facts, and that I felt that way because of America's correlation of having the most guns and the most mass shootings. It was a funny ending because it got serious, but we both laughed and I told him to feel better!
