Trisha TS #11
I met with Turki at CIES. He tends to be a bit unorganized and spontaneous with what he feels like working on, and changes his mind often. I asked him what he wanted to work on today, and he said he didn't know and that he just woke up. I suggested we do a writing exercise where he reads an excerpt and i provide him with comprehension questions to complete. He wanted to play a game, so we played Scrabble and then Headband. Scrabble was very difficult for him, as he didn't understand the rules of the game. I explained them to him multiple times, but he seemed to be getting frustrated when he couldn't create words. I suggested we play Headband. I thought it would apply to tutoring because it encourages his conversational English. It ended up working out very well, as there were times when he would ask a question that wouldn't make sense in the English language or he would ask a question that did make sense, and I would answer appropriately, but he thought the answer would've been different. It was fun and an easy way to explain meanings in contexts of explaining things!
