Immediately after my observation of Hunter on January 25th, I observed 2A Reading with Calyn Stringer. Immediately after my observation of Hunter on January 25th, I observed 2A Reading with Calyn Stringer. She introduced the class by discussing the previous reading assignment on beavers. Gerunds were heavily used in that reading so she quickly went over gerunds and how prepositions help contribute to gerunds. Today, she chose to have the students read about the human body. The vocabulary she gave the students was appropriate for the level (poisoning, injury, and illness) and asked the students to define them. Before we started reading, she picked a youtube video about the body “This is My Body – ESL Body Part Song” and asked us to sing along. Then, she went over a strategy on how to easily break down readings even if they seem daunting. We wrote down the main idea of each paragraph with one or two sentences, in our own words, that summarize the material described in the paragraph.
