Cameron TS #1

On February 2nd, I met Diana Olsen for the first time. We did introductions and discussed our backgrounds. I used this opportunity to assess her spoken English. I found that she is from Brussels, Belgium and lives with her sister and brother-in-law here in Tallahassee. She had only lived in the states for a few months, but her English is impressive. When asking her about what she was hoping to focus on when tutoring, she told me she wants help with idioms and pronunciation. Most of the teachers have told her that one of her biggest issues is pronunciation and grammar. So, she asked me to correct any pronunciation and grammar mistakes she makes throughout the conversation. I felt this would be too nit picky especially since she is so new to the language, so I wrote down mistakes she consistently made. Her biggest issues seemed to be using adverbs and adjectives correctly, the uses of “since, for, and ago”, and the uses of different tenses in different situations. I told her that these issues seem daunting, but we will takes things one step at a time. We set up a plan to meet weekly, at least, and I decided my first lesson would be on the tenses and "since, for, and ago."
