I met Hassad at the Starbucks on West Tennessee Street on February 13th. When texting back and forth, Hassad, seemed to be fairly new
to English. However, when I met him, his speaking was impressive. When I
mentioned this, he said that he watches a lot of American movies and tv shows
to help with his English. We discussed movies that have recently come out and
if he enjoyed them, since I work at AMC Tallahassee. He was attempting to take
the IELTS soon, so he wanted help with this. When discussing idioms and slang,
he mentioned that he was not too interested in learning English in this sort of
manner. He preferred more formal English, because he wanted to be able to go to
any country and speak English with any English speaker. I felt this, somewhat,
defeated the purpose of studying here in the U.S., because we have so much culture
and idioms within our language.
