On March 7th, I met with Diana for our last tutoring
session. She asked me to help her with an essay she was working on about
innovation in Belgium. I was thoroughly impressed with how few corrections the
professor marked on her paper compared to the last draft he worked on together.
Since there were so few corrections to be made, we had a lot of time to spare.
This led us to talking about the football match that was playing in the CIES
lounge while playing scrabble. We took the opportunity to work on her
pronunciation and other errors she makes. She is from Belgium, so she named off
all the famous Belgian players that play for the national team. I got excited because
I am so passionate about the beautiful game, and we got to relate on another
level. I found out she is going to New Orleans for Spring Break, and I
forewarned here that the French language she may encounter is probably entirely
different from the French she is used to. At the end of our session, I told her
that this would be our last, but I had such a good time tutoring her that I don’t
mind continuing until I graduate in May.
