Cameron TS#4
On February 16th, Diana and I met again in the CIES building. I had decided to cover adverbs, adjectives, and noun
placement, because I found that she had issues inverting these due to her French
background. For example, she would say “This desk is largely” or would say “The
desk white” when attempting to describe the noun. At first, I tried giving
definitions of adverbs, nouns, and adjectives and when to use them. However, I could
see she felt overwhelmed and even lost. So, I pulled out beginner level
worksheets to see if I could explain this content as I worked them out with
her. I would ask her to circle noun and verb, then the worksheet asked her to
determine if the word they highlighted was an adverb or adjective. To break it
down even further, I asked her if the highlighted word is describing the noun
or verb. After a few questions, she picked this up very quickly, and I moved
from worksheets to speaking. I created the sentences in my head and asked her
to identify the adverb and/or adjective. I finished the lesson by giving her a
list of American songs to listen to that highlight some of the lessons we have
gone over.
