Kreem and I met again at our usual spot. This time he wanted to work on grammar for an upcoming grammar quiz. His test was mostly comprised of different beautiful mistakes that accumulated over the session. Many of his questions centered on the difference between does and is. This seems very simple, but at the time these questions really confused me. There is an obvious difference between these two words, but as just a native speaker who has not studied the intricacies of grammar, I had no idea where to start. I started looking up different explanations. I then realized to explain the usage as a difference between the action verb and the state "to be". Also, I noticed how the conjugation of the next verb after the word does or is differed. These explanations seemed to help solidify these concepts in his mind.
