I met with Mosimango again at Nims Middle School. This session, we read a comic book about Iron Man. It seemed to be a bit more difficult than the usual material that I pick for him, but his interest in the subject matter encouraged him to learn more vocabulary. I can tell he loves superheros. Mosimango seems to be more enthusiastic and learn quicker when we are doing activities that are more physical. For example, Mosimango likes to act things out, or get up out of his seat to explain a vocabulary word. I am very impressed with his improvements in vocabulary. I can see each week he is growing more comfortable speaking English. However, he has a very beginner reading level and has trouble sounding out words. I am going to bring more superhero books next time to engage his interest and lower his affective filter.
