Nadine and I met again on Wednesday, this time to go over the TOEFL she just took. She just started her 3rd CIES session, and I wanted to talk over areas of skill. She is pretty good at composition and is in group 3A, but she said her speaking is still in group 2B. I asked what would help her most going forward, and she said she still wants to study from the TOEFL textbook.

We started by talking about what she found hard about the test. She said the listening, and then responding verbally was hard, so I searched up "toefl talking practice", and a bunch of stuff came up. Some were short prompts, and others were integrated. We just stuck to the 45 second ones, and while she spoke, I wrote down any mistakes to go over. It is understandable that she is nervous, but she pauses a long time between speaking.

I went over note taking tips, because it helps a lot with knowing what to say. First, I said to write key words, not sentences. Also, write down important ideas - what are they asking? what are they looking for? examples? your opinion?

Next time, we will check out another TOEFL book from the library, and go from there!
